The Ruins (2008)

Based of the best-selling Scott Smith (A Simple Plan) novel of the same name, The Ruins sounds a lot sillier when you try to describe it than it does when you actually watch it. It is about an ancient Mayan pyramid deep in the jungle, infested inside and out, by a man-eating plant. But this isn’t your Little Shop of Horrors type of man-eating plant, but rather an adaptive, cunning and downright nasty man-eating plant akin to the pods in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The Ruins details a group of young tourists who happen upon the pyramid and find themselves trapped on it. Their choices seem to be either a slow, horrible death on the ruin, or a nice quick death if they step off of it. Either way, it seems as if no one is getting out of the jungle alive.
