The Dark Knight Is Breaking Records

Based on some early numbers Deadline Hollywood reports that it looks like The Dark Knight passed Shrek 2 by racing to $400 million dollars in just 18 days after it’s initial release. As an obsessive fanboy I couldn’t be happier. That said. That evil, dark cloud over the film world still hovers, like a thief in the night ready to steal your firstborn and eat their liver in front of you. Damn you Titanic, you don’t deserve your spot, at all. Read on.

Opening weekend record for TDK.

OK, so, as a huge fanboy of Nolan and his take on the Batman series, I was uber-excited to hear that The Dark Knight stomped the extremely under-whelming Star Wars III Friday night opening numbers. But, the news today has made my heart sing. A well made, nearly perfect film, beat out, what I consider one of the worst films ever, Spiderman 3, and took in almost $159 million at the box-office for an opening weekend record. Take that Tobie!

TDK sets Midnight Showing record!

OK, here’s me being a fanboy, but it’s kinda news, so, I’m allowed to post this. The Dark Knight destroyed the midnight screening record, set by Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (shudder), and took in a ton of cash.

Warner Bros. reported Friday that the early morning screenings of “The Dark Knight” grabbed a record $18.5 million. Of that total, $640,000 came from the large-format screens presented the movie in Imax.

And, another really cool fact:

…it doesn’t include the grosses from the 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. showings that some theaters booked.

I’m sure TDK will break $100 million, but I’m hoping it’ll pull in a ton more this weekend. And, I haven’t even seen it yet! Sunday can not come soon enough. I’m such a fanboy!
